We choose to keep YesTribe groups public for a few reasons.
While private groups and events mean that people who aren’t members cannot see posts and details, the general visibility of these events limits engagement and ultimately the amount of people who turn up to events.
For example, we can’t add private events or events created in private groups to the main SayYesMore calendar, which is where we archive our record of SayYesMore events and point tribe members to when they’re searching for events.
As it is, there’s such little barrier to joining the groups and events as it is, that creating a legitimately private group would mean a more stringent vetting process which we’re not a position to make happen.
So, in the absence of the official privacy setting, we simply recommend that anyone using groups or events on Facebook be mindful of the personal information they share. It’s an individual choice to divulge in a public place, and we have to let people make their own choices without creating more work, or threatening the success of each group and event.
